How Effective Is Undawn's Companion System in Tough Missions?

Took me way too long to actually use the Companion system in Undawn. I was running solo through everything, dying more than I should've, and just blamed the difficulty. Turns out I had a Companion sitting there doing basically nothing because I never bothered setting it up properly.

Once I did, the game changed.

There are three types — combat, support, exploration. Combat felt obvious so I started there. Works great for clearing zones fast but boss fights are a different story. Went back, switched to a support build, and suddenly those same bosses felt manageable. Not easy, just manageable. That's actually the right word for it.

Exploration Companions are the ones people sleep on. Not flashy, but after a few sessions you start noticing how much material you were leaving behind before.

Where Undawn RC Fits Into All of This

Okay so Undawn RC — here's where I see people mess up constantly. Event goes live, everyone scrambles to buy RC right then, spends it on whatever's in front of them, and then the actually useful Companion content drops a week later and they're broke.

I've done this. It's annoying.

What actually works is keeping Undawn RC ready before a season starts. Big events get teased in advance. If you're already loaded when they go live, you get first pick on the gear that matters. Simple in theory, hard in practice because FOMO is real.

Hard Missions — Does the Companion Actually Pull Weight?

Boss content in Undawn punishes bad Companion setups hard. Survivability config over raw damage, almost every time. A Companion that keeps you alive through a long fight is doing more work than one that hits slightly harder and dies early.

The bond mechanic is genuinely the best part. Your Companion gets better the more you play together — you actually feel it in hard raids, not just in the stats.

One real complaint: when multiple enemies rush at once the AI targeting gets messy. Picks the wrong threat, wastes its ability, and you're left covering for it. Doesn't ruin the system but in the hardest content it shows up enough to matter.

Bottom Line

Take the Companion system seriously and it pays off. Ignore it and Undawn becomes harder than it needs to be.
